Microsoft: MSN TV (formerly Web TV) closing on 30Sept,2013

The first Web TV which was founded by Steve Perelman in 1995 which later on provided on-live game streaming service. Sony and Phillips started setup boxes with web TV in 1996, which in turn gave simple access to email and internet via dial up modem.

Later in 1997, the IT giant Microsoft acquired Web TV for $425 and tried to expand its service. But unfortunately,  Microsoft could not keep up with the rapidly changing pace of how people were accessing the Internet via broadband connections combined with cheaper laptops and desktops.

In 2001 Microsoft named Web TV as MSN TV and as a upgrade in 2004 Microsoft launched MSN TV2 hardware and software service.
Now the company has turned its set up box focus to Xbox, the launch of Xbox one console represents the company's latest attempt to merge internet with living room experience.
