Next Generation Optical Disk: 300GB Capacity

Sony Corporation and Panasonic Corporation had signed a basic agreement with objective of jointly developing a new generation optical disk of atleast 300GB capacity by 2015. Sony previously commercialized a file-based optical disc archive system in September, 2012. Based on optical disc technology that Sony cultivated for its XDCAM series of professional broadcasting products, this system houses twelve optical discs within a compact cartridge as a single, high-capacity storage solution. Each disc within the cartridge holds 25GB capacity, offering a total range of storage capacities from 300GB to 1.5TB. Panasonic launched its ‘LB-DM9 series’ of optical disc storage devices. This series uses a dedicated magazine of just 20.8mm thickness to house twelve 100GB optical discs. A maximum of 90 magazines can be stored, providing a total storage capacity of 180TB. The first Web TV which was founded by Steve Perelman in 1995 which later on provided on-live game streaming service. Sony and Phillips started setup boxes with web TV in 1996, which in turn gave simple access to email and internet via dial up modem. Later in 1997, the IT giant  Microsoft acquired Web TV for $425 and tried to expand its service. But unfortunately,    Microsoft could not keep up with the rapidly changing pace of how people were accessing the Internet via broadband connections combined with cheaper laptops and desktops. In 2001 Microsoft named Web TV as MSN TV and as a upgrade in 2004 Microsoft launched MSN TV2 hardware and software service. Now the company has turned its set up box focus to Xbox, the launch of Xbox one console represents the company's latest attempt to merge internet with living room experience.

Lenovo to launch 27-inch 'interpersonal computer'

Dismayed that family members are spread out over the house, each with a separate PC or tablet? Lenovo has something it believes will get them back together: a PC the size of a coffee table that works like a gigantic  tablet  and lets four people use it at once. Lenovo Group , one of the world's largest PC makers, is calling the IdeaCentre Horizon  Table PC  the first "interpersonal computer" - as opposed to a "personal computer." At first glance, it looks like a regular all-in-one machine in the vein of the iMac: It's a 27-inch screen with the innards of a  Windows 8  computer built into it, and it can stand up on a table. But you can pick it up off the table, unhook the power cord and lay it flat for games of "Monopoly." It's big enough to fit four people around it, and the screen can respond to ten fingers touching it at the same time. As a tablet, it's a monstrosity. The screen is the size of eight  iPads  stitched together, and it wei...

Samsung ‘confirms’ Galaxy S IV screen size

The recently-concluded Consumer Electronic Show held in Las Vegas saw  Samsung  boasting of latest in TV technology: TV which 'kills' remote, curved TVs and lots of other  exciting  innovations it plans to bring to the space. However, the company had little to offer to its smartphone lovers.  However, a closer inspection of Samsung's booth at CES reveals that the company inadvertently gave away the screen size and other details of the display it plans to use in its upcoming smartphone  Samsung Galaxy S IV .  A report on technology blog AnadTech says that a section at Samsung's booth had a listing showing the evolution of the AMOLED displays developed by the company. Not only did this include the screens used in the flagship devices like Galaxy S, S II and S III, but also the one widely expected to be used in the upcoming Galaxy S IV.  According to the report, Galaxy S IV will feature a 4.99-inch SuperAMOLED display that has 440ppi pixel den...

Apple iPhone 5S with 13MP camera coming in July

Apple  launched  iPhone 5  with much fanfare just five months ago, but reports say the company is already working on not one but two iPhones as well as next generation  iPad and iPad mini.  Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with KGI Securities, says that Apple is working on an  iPhone  5 successor that will have new features like snappier processor, fingerprint sensor, better camera and more powerful LED flash. Kuo's claim of fingerprint recognition system gains a little credence from Apple's 2012 acquisition of Authentec, which deals with this technology.  Coming to the  cheaper iPhone  being developed by Apple, Kuo says this device will be same as iPhone 5 but will be a little stockier. Instead of the aluminium body and waistline of 7.6mm, the cheaper iPhone will have a plastic casing and measure 8.2mm around the sides. He also said this device will be available in six colours, a rumour that has done rounds in the past as well.  Tec...
